Nanobits Product Spotlight
EDITOR’S NOTE
Dear Nanobiters,
Wishing you all a very happy new year!
I know, I know we were away for a while. Both Geetika and I were busy shifting our bases to start new innings of our lives.
Now that we are settled in, we want to start this new year with a chapter at Nanobits.
In our previous newsletter, we explored automation briefly and shared Nanobits' new strategic direction for the future.
Continuing from where we left off, today we are going to look at an interesting application of Make.com—how to repurpose your existing content [preferably long form] into social media posts [be it LinkedIn or X/twitter].
This is a problem statement every marketer/content creator struggles with—distribution. How to distribute content to as many people as humanely or otherwise possible!
I have been tinkering with Make for some time now, and I am super excited to share this blueprint with you.
So, are you ready?
ARE YOU NEW TO MAKE.COM?
It’s a super easy and intuitive tool to learn.
Here’s a beginner-friendly guide/primer I wrote a few weeks ago. It will help you get started with Make.com.
Context for building this MAKE automation workflow
Creating social media content from your blog shouldn't feel like a mountain to climb.
Let's break down what this typically involves:
The journey starts once your blog post goes live.
You take time to absorb the content, searching for those golden nuggets of wisdom worth sharing.
Then comes the creative challenge - reshaping those insights into bite-sized pieces that capture your brand's unique voice.
Before hitting 'post,' you carefully review each message to ensure it aligns with your vision.
Think about this: if you're publishing eight blog posts monthly, you're repeating this process nearly 100 times a year. That's a significant investment of both time and creative energy.
The traditional approach isn't just time-consuming - it's a drain on your team's valuable resources.
But there's good news: by combining AI with smart automation, you can transform this labor-intensive process into something more manageable and efficient.
Today, we'll explore how to seamlessly convert your blog content into engaging social posts using a powerful combination of WordPress, ChatGPT, and Make.
Ready to reimagine your content workflow? Let's discover how to make your creative process more efficient while maintaining your authentic voice.
You can find this blueprint later in the newsletter!
How to create a Make.com workflow that repurposes your blogs to social media posts
This super simple automation will create social media posts from a blog article.
I have set this up to run from the WordPress tool. So, if you use WordPress to publish blogs, this automation will help you create and repurpose the blog into a LinkedIn and an X [previously Twitter] post.
You can set this automation to post directly onto the platforms [LinkedIn and X] or store the generated copies in an Excel sheet so that you can edit the copies before posting.
A significant drawback of posting directly onto LinkedIn/X is that if you use this automation regularly, your account might be flagged as a bot and temporarily or permanently banned from the platforms.
Let’s get started.
Click on scenarios on the left-hand side.
Click “Create a new scenario” on the top right corner of the page.
This now drops us into the scenario editor or designer, where we can build our automation.
Module 1: Source [WordPress]
In the center of the screen, you'll see this large plus icon. This is the first step of our scenario. We will start by adding a WordPress module.
We need some trigger, and this will kick off the scenario or the automation.
In this case, every new post triggers this automation. When a new post is published, there's an option to “watch posts.” That's exactly what I want, so I'll click on it.
This now opens up a dialogue where you'll need to establish a connection with WordPress.
After adding the Integromat plugin to your WordPress account, scroll down to the left to find the Make plugin option in the menu. When you click on it, a new page with the API key will appear.
Since we are monitoring only the published posts for this scenario, select “Posts“ under the Type and “Publish“ under the Status fields.
I have restricted the limit [how many posts do you want at one time] to 1 for one workflow execution cycle. I have also set the starting point for processing this automation to ALL so that it can retrieve all the posts you have written so far.
Now, let’s test to ensure this is working as expected. We already have a few posts written, so I clicked on “Run once“ to check whether the response got accurately captured in Make. It did!
Module 2: LinkedIn Posts Generator
Now, let’s add a ChatGPT module to our WordPress module, which will send the post from WordPress to ChatGPT for processing.
To connect Make and ChatGPT, you need an OpenAI API key, which you can find here.
Then click on the plus sign on the right of your WordPress Module to add the ChatGPT module.
Note: Choose Completion (Prompt) (GPT and o1 Models) trigger from the list of actions.
Here is the prompt I used for the module. You may modify it according to your preference.
You are a social media manager with extensive experience in crafting engaging LinkedIn posts that resonate with professionals and encourage them to take action.
Your expertise lies in summarizing content effectively while maintaining an informative and inviting tone.
Your task is to write a LinkedIn post based on the content of the blog article provided. The post should be concise, engaging, and tailored to the LinkedIn audience, enticing readers to click through and read the full article.
Please ensure the post aligns with LinkedIn's professional atmosphere and highlights the value of the article.
Module 3: Twitter Posts Generator
Then, we will create a similar module for X/Twitter post generation.
You don’t have to recreate a connection between Make and ChatGPT this time. Select the Completion (Prompt) (GPT and o1 Models) trigger from the list of actions.
Here is the prompt I used for the module. You may modify it according to your preference.
You are a social media manager with extensive experience in crafting engaging Twitter posts that capture attention and drive traffic to blog articles. Your expertise lies in creating concise, impactful messages that resonate with the audience and encourage them to explore further.
Your task is to write a Twitter post based on the content of the blog article provided. The post should be concise, engaging, and tailored to the Twitter audience, enticing readers to click through and read the full article.
Please ensure the tone is engaging and appropriate for Twitter while maintaining a clear call to action that encourages readers to check out the full article.
Once the configuration is done, let’s check if the flow works as intended.
And it does! If your modules contain no errors, they will turn green to indicate success.
Now, there are two options for the next step:
[Preferred] You can either save the responses on a Google sheet or
Publish directly to LinkedIn and X [Twitter]
We have already discussed the pros and cons of publishing directly on the platforms, so I will save the responses on a Google Sheet for this scenario.
Module 4: Save the results
Let’s look at how we can integrate Google Sheets into the module. For this module, you have to create a new sheet in your drive and remember the path to the file.
Now, let’s examine our progress so far. Here’s the result of one iteration of the workflow.
I have linked the Google Sheet here so you can look at the results yourself.
The workflow is now ready!
Let’s look at another iteration:
The next step is to schedule it.
I don't want to come here and manually run this whenever a new blog post is published.
To turn scheduling on, press this toggle in the bottom left-hand corner. Then, you can configure the schedule to run on certain days of the week or month.
Remember that the more often it runs, the more operations your scenario will consume. So, think of a reasonable interval at which to run this.
And just like that, we've saved some precious time by automating repetitive tasks.
Workflow Variations
If you don’t use WordPress, you can easily replace the first module with the content platform of your choice, like Shopify or Beehiiv.
Shopify/Make Connection
Beehiiv/Make Connection
For this, you would need the Beehiiv API key and Publication ID.
Here’s how you can find them:
To find your Beehiiv API key and Publication ID, log into your Beehiiv account and navigate to Settings > Workplace Settings.
You will see the API section for both your API keys and publication ID there.
To create a new API key, click "Create New API Key" and copy the generated key securely, as it will only be displayed once.
Scroll further down on the page to locate the publication ID unique to your newsletter of choice.
Since we have selected the “View Post“ trigger from the Beehiiv actions list, we need a Post ID to pull content from your chosen newsletter. For this demo, I chose the last newsletter I wrote about creating your first automation workflow with MAKE.com.
Here’s how you can find it:
Here is the Google Sheet with the final results from this Beehiiv workflow.
Similarly, you can also create Facebook and Instagram content generation workflows.
