How to Build a Custom GPT to Boost Your Next SaaS Launch?
Nanobits Product Spotlight
EDITOR’S NOTE
Dear Nanobiters,
Welcome to a new edition of Nanobits.
Why is it new, and what’s changing?
We spoke to our readers again. I love this part of my job!
After this research, we realized that our readers need more information on how to use AI tools more effectively. While there are many tools on the market, it’s very difficult for knowledge workers and operators to figure out how to use them effectively.
That’s where we want to help.
We want to build a repository that provides access to real-world examples and templates for using AI tools effectively for the top tech operators in the market [in sales, marketing, and product]. We want to help professionals accelerate their work with AI tools and avoid starting from scratch.
By offering resources such as automation templates [think custom Zapier, Make automation flows for generating leads, personal branding, social selling, market research, competition research, product roadmaps, etc.] and custom GPT guides, we aim to help readers enhance their strategic planning, execution, and evaluation processes.
Nanobits will aim to facilitate knowledge sharing and provide practical tools that align with business objectives, ultimately helping individuals and teams achieve their goals more effectively.
This is the first edition of many more newsletters to come. Today, we will learn how to create a custom GPT for AI and B2B SaaS product marketers.
So, let’s get started!
WHAT ARE CUSTOM GPTs?
Custom GPTs are personalized iterations of ChatGPT that users can configure for distinct purposes.
This customization involves combining specific instructions, integrating additional knowledge, and defining particular skills to create a model adept at handling specialized tasks.
The process is user-friendly, requiring no coding expertise, and allows for creating GPTs for personal use, organizational applications, or public sharing.
For instance, a Custom GPT can be developed to assist with learning board game rules, teach children mathematics, or design creative stickers.

How it works?
Creating a Custom GPT is streamlined to be accessible to all users.
The process involves initiating a conversation with ChatGPT, providing specific instructions and supplementary knowledge, and selecting the desired functionalities, such as web searching, image generation, or data analysis.
Developers can define custom actions by integrating one or more APIs, enabling GPTs to access external data or interact with real-world applications.
This integration allows GPTs to connect to databases, manage emails, or function as shopping assistants, extending their utility across various domains.
Why custom GPTs are a game changer for B2B marketers?
Creating tailored GPTs for your teams can significantly boost the success of new product launches and the strategic management of existing products. Here's how:
Personalized Messaging: Custom GPTs enable you to craft content that speaks directly to each audience segment, whether high-level executive summaries, detailed specs for technical sales reps, or concise descriptions for marketing materials.
Consistency and Accuracy: By training GPTs on your product data and key messaging points, you ensure that all communications consistently reflect your brand's voice and highlight your product's unique selling propositions.
Rapid Content Creation: In the fast-paced environment of product launches, GPTs can swiftly generate a variety of materials—including email drafts, presentation scripts, social media posts, and training documents—thereby accelerating the content development process.
Enhanced Collaboration: A custom GPT serves as a centralized repository of information, facilitating seamless collaboration across different teams and ensuring that everyone has access to the most current and accurate data.
Data-Driven Insights: By analyzing data from previous product launches and current market trends, GPTs can provide valuable insights and recommendations, informing and refining your ongoing marketing strategies.
Scalability: Custom GPTs enable efficient management and dissemination of information across multiple products and teams, maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy even as organizational demands grow.
By integrating custom GPTs into your product marketing efforts, you can achieve more personalization, consistency, and efficiency, ultimately leading to more successful product strategies and launches.
Context for building custom GPTs for AI/B2B SaaS
My experience with AI and B2B SaaS clients has revealed a common challenge: managing information across multiple product lines.
Startups, especially, often struggle to maintain a single, reliable source of truth for product details, competitive intelligence, and other key data.
This lack of organization hinders cross-functional alignment, with teams like sales, customer success, product, and marketing all facing difficulties in accessing up-to-date information.
I developed a centralized knowledge solution for one of my B2B SaaS clients to deal with this issue.
This dynamic resource is a continuously updated hub, ensuring all teams can confidently access the latest product information and market insights.
This system streamlines information sharing and promotes consistency across the organization by providing a single source of truth.
Here’s how you can build a custom GPT
I am creating a GPT that supports the product launch of fraud detection and prevention software in geographies like India, the US, Europe, LATAM, MENA, and SEA.
Let’s get started.
Click on “Explore GPTs.” It’s on the top left panel of your ChatGPT window.
Then click “Create, “ as shown in the top right corner.
Start by configuring a display picture for your GPT. You can upload your creation or use DALL-E to generate one with AI.
Then, you can configure the name, description, and instructions for the GPT.
Name: Sales Enablement GPT
Description: Develops sales pitch and training assistant for teams
Instructions:
Act as the Sales Pitch and Training mentor for our company. Your tasks include:
**Develop engaging training materials and personalized sales pitches for our company**
Please generate the following:
1. **Training Materials**: Create comprehensive modules covering product overviews, feature explanations, usage scenarios, and effective sales techniques for our sales and support teams.
2. **Personalized Sales Pitches**: For each of the following customer segments, craft a customized sales pitch that addresses their unique needs and pain points:
+ Individual consumers
+ Small businesses
+ Enterprise clients
Please highlight relevant product features and benefits in each pitch.
3. **Key Talking Points**: List the most important key talking points and value propositions that our sales teams should emphasize during their pitches, highlighting the benefits and unique selling points of our product.
4. **Objection Handling**: Identify common objections that potential customers might have, and provide well-reasoned rebuttals to help our sales teams confidently address these concerns and close deals.
Goal: Equip our sales and support teams with the knowledge and tools they need to effectively communicate the value of our product, tailor their pitches to different customer segments, and confidently address any objections that may arise.
Then, add a few conversation starters. I added the following four:
Develop a training module for our new sales joiners.
Key talking points for a Fortune 500 company.
Objections related to data security and privacy.
How to rebut pricing objections?
Here comes the best part:
It’s time to train the GPT with the company’s existing knowledge base.
It's important to note that this activity should be exclusive to private GPTs within an enterprise or team account. This restriction is critical because you will share sensitive, confidential company information.
For today’s newsletter, I will share a repository of company documents you can use to train the GPT.
It's important to remember that all documents should be up-to-date and accurate before training your custom GPT.

Points to remember while uploading the files:
What types of files are supported?
All common file extensions for text files, spreadsheets, presentations, and documents.
How many files can I upload at once per GPT?
Up to 20 files per GPT for the lifetime of that GPT. Keep in mind there are file size restrictions and usage caps per user/org.
What are the file upload size restrictions?
All files uploaded to a GPT or a ChatGPT conversation have a hard limit of 512MB per file.
All text and document files uploaded to a GPT or to a ChatGPT conversation are capped at 2M tokens per file. This limitation does not apply to spreadsheets.
For CSV files or spreadsheets, the file size cannot exceed approximately 50MB, depending on the size of each row.
For images, there's a limit of 20MB per image.
Additionally, there are usage caps:
Each end-user is capped at 10GB.
Each organization is capped at 100GB.
Note: An error will be displayed if a user/org cap has been hit.
Once the GPT is built, you can test it by asking a few questions.
Should you encounter any inaccuracies or need to modify the information provided by the GPT, you can easily edit it within the "Create" mode.
A helpful tip for navigating the system is to explicitly state your objective and then request assistance in formulating a prompt that achieves that goal.
For instance, when seeking support documentation, you could say, "I'm developing a new GPT to support a product launch. Can you guide me on the necessary information to ensure the sales and marketing teams have access to all the essential details within this GPT?"
This approach helps clarify your intent and facilitates the creation of effective prompts.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Challenges & Future Improvements
A current limitation we've identified is the absence of a feature automatically generating PowerPoint presentations from GPT outputs.
While OpenAI hasn't incorporated this functionality yet, its potential to streamline content conversion for presentations could drive its inclusion in future updates.
Furthermore, we're investigating creating customer profiling tools to enhance our sales team's effectiveness.
These tools enable sales representatives to input customer attributes and receive tailored insights, including relevant class recommendations, targeted talking points, and supporting data.
This capability would empower our sales team to personalize their approach and address individual customer needs better.
My $0.02
OpenAI’s platform simplifies customization by allowing users to fine-tune models without requiring extensive programming skills, and that’s the best part. My research involved understanding datasets, token usage, and customization.
Getting the data ready and fine-tuning everything took some real dedication, let me tell you! It was all about trying things out, seeing what worked, and leaning on OpenAI's support whenever we hit a snag. It definitely wasn't a walk in the park, but sticking with it was the key.
